Marie Aloi’s goal gives C-NS a 3-2 win over RFA Pat Spadafore/The Post-Standard, October 28, 2012 5:56 p.m. Liverpool – Marie Aloi scored off a penalty corner shot with six minutes left in the game to give top-seed Cicero-North Syracuse a 3-2 win over Rome Free Academy. The Northstars will next play No. 3 Liverpool in the Class A final, Saturday at Michael J. Bragman Complex at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Game time will be announced on Monday. Cicero-North Syracuse opened a 2-0 first half lead. After two unsuccessful penalty corner attempts, the Northstars broke through at the 25:02 mark when McKayla Roberts put a shot in the lower left corner. Megan Caveny assisted on the goal. Roberts added another goal 12 minutes later when she drilled a five yard shot past the RFA goalie Reanna Zappavigna. RFA came out with a vengeance in the second half. First, Lindsay Nowicki tallied a goal at the 26:23 mark. Then, at the 22:41 mark Janeene Yates tied the game when she the ball deflected off the CNS goalie Hannah White and Yates had an open cage to put the ball in. “I told the girls at that point that it was their season to win or lose,” said C-NS coach Pat Kennedy. “The responded will and Marie (Aloi) was able to get the winning goal.” Aloi’s shot was the third attempt on the penalty corner, and her patience paid off with the game winning goal.
