CNS Boys Volleyball Beats JD

Cicero-North Syracuse welcomes Red Rams to fall season with easy win in boys
volleyball

Josh Rodriguez of CNS prepares to
deliver a **** shot in match against J-D’s Max Freeman

Cicero-North Syracuse High School provided a bit of an uncomfortable
welcome to the fall season for Jamesville-DeWitt with an emphatic three-set
victory in boys volleyball on Monday.

The Red Rams moved their varsity program from winter into the fall
season this year, but were overwhelmed by the NorthStars, who won 25-14, 25-20
and 25-12.

Justin Collins recorded 21 assists in the victory. Outside hitters
Josh Rodriguez (eight kills) and Austen Morgan (six kills) led the scoring.

It was the first victory of the season for CNS, which was winless
prior to the match after losing to three Section V teams including Penfield and
Webster. It was the first match of the season for J-D.

CNS coach Mike Lucia said his core of juniors (Rodriguez, Morgan,
middle hitter Andrew Bocyck and Robert Palucci) gained varsity experience a year
ago and its starting to pay dividends.

Collins, a senior, is in his second season of setting up the
offense.

“He really understands the game and knows where to put the ball and
who to set up at certain times,” said Lucia. “I don’t know if it shows up in the
stats, but he’s an excellent defensive blocker.”
